Men’s Crew Finishes 10th at New England Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wesleyan men's crew team competed at the New England Championships on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday, The varsity 8 boat recorded a fourth place finish in the petite final and finished 10th of 18 teams overall to highlight the action on the day.
Competing in heat 2 late in the morning, Wesleyan's varsity 8 clocked in at 6:04.591 in the preliminary race to finish third out of six teams in their heat and ninth-fastest out of 18 teams overall. Advancing to the petite final, Wesleyan's top boat recorded a fourth place finish out of the six teams competing with a time of 6:10.165, giving the Cardinals a 10th place finish out of 18 teams in the field.
 
Wesleyan's second varsity 8 boat took to the water in heat 1, landing a seventh place finish out of 14 teams in the preliminary action, just missing a spot in the grand final by 0.255 seconds. The Cardinals' time of 6:17.579 was fourth out of seven teams in heat 1 and seventh out of 14 teams overall in preliminaries, clocking in just behind Bates who landed the last spot in the grand final with a time of 6:17.324. In the petite final, Wesleyan's time of 6:19.204 was sixth-best, giving the second varsity 8 boat a 12th place finish out of 14 teams overall.
 
The Cardinals' third and final boat in action was the third varsity 8, with Wesleyan finishing with the top spot in the petite final at 6:51.778, finishing in seventh place overall out of nine teams.
 
Wesleyan is back in action next Sunday with a trip back to Worcester to compete in the National Invitational Rowing Championship.
