Women’s Crew Closes Out Fall Season with Strong Showing at the Head of the Fish

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – In a terrific all-around showing to finish up the fall season, the Wesleyan women's crew team took a runner-up finish in the varsity 8 while also taking third in the second varsity 8 as well as fourth place in the novice/freshman 8 competitions.
 
The varsity 8 race saw the Cardinals place behind MIT and in front of both Cornell boats as well as Marist to round out of top 5. Wesleyan finished with a time of 12:03.45 which was just over half a second ahead of the Cornell B boat which took third place. The Cardinals' lineup in the V8 included: Noa Pesner '24 (coxswain), Shayna McCarthy 24, Shelagh Coombs '24, Anna Merrifield '24, Cadence Cole '26, Hailey Hutchison '27, Ruby Roberts '27, Elsa Lawrence '27, and Nora Printy '26.
 
In the collegiate 2V/3V race, MIT again took first with Cornell finishing second. Wesleyan's 2V8 came in third followed by Smith in fourth and MIT's 3V8 in fifth. That 2V8 boat for Wesleyan finished with a time of 12:51.08 and included: Aria Trotta '27 (coxswain), Alex Kuo '26, Elise McCamant '24, Greta Armbrust '25, Emilia Byrne '24, Em Moran '26, Sophie Braver '27, Aleah Hurwitz '25, and Grace Donfield '26. The Wesleyan 3V8 came in 13th out of 23 boats and was the second-fastest Div. III 3V8 boat in the competition with a time of 14:00.91. That boat included: Dana Hennings '27 (coxswain), Julia Lissack 27, Helen Gies '26, Anna Sewell '27, Rebecca Schechter '26, Honor O'Donnell '26, Marin Theis '27, Victoria Pereira '27, and Meg Bigelow '24.
 
The novice/freshmen 8 race featured the toughest winds of the day as the Cardinals battled to a fourth-place finish in the difficult conditions out of 22 boats. Wesleyan's group of Gabby Ager '27 (coxswain), Lawrence, Hutchison, Roberts, Braver, Lissack, Stella Tollis '27, Hennings, and Theis clocked in at 14:03.27. Cornell, Hamilton, and Smith took the top 3 with Rhode Island completing the top 5.
