MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's squash team suffered an 8-1 defeat to No. 16 ranked Middlebury before rebounding with a 7-0 win over Vassar to close out a three-match weekend in the Rosenbaum Squash Center.
Wesleyan started the day with an 8-1 loss to the Panthers, with the lone point for the Cardinals coming from
Penelope Furnas '27 who pulled off a thrilling comeback five-set win. After losing the first two sets 11-6, 11-4, Furnas came roaring back with three straight set victories (11-7, 12-10, 11-7) to defeat Eva Finney at #4. Seven of the eight Middlebury wins came via 3-0 sweeps while
Marangela James '24 fell in four sets (7-11, 4-11, 12-10, 2-11) at #9.
The afternoon match against the Brewers was one-sided, as Wesleyan managed sweeps across the lineup, all of which coming in 14 minutes or less.
