MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's swimming & diving team played host to No. 18 ranked Amherst on Monday night in a final tune-up before Thanksgiving Break. The Mammoths pulled out the 164-78 win over the Cardinals in team scoring.
Zoe Kuhn '26 was the top performer on the night for the Cardinals as the sophomore recorded two first place finishes along with a runner-up result.
Izzy Pennington '24 also took a first place finish while
Izzy Paez '26 recorded three runner-ups for Wesleyan.
Kuhn impressed in the 50 free, scoring one of her two victories on the night with a time of 25.28 seconds that beat Lauren Eng of Amherst by 0.22 seconds. After dominating the sprint event, Kuhn showed she can handle the distance events as her time of 5:27.50 in the 500 free was fastest in the field, beating the Mammoths' Diane Koo by more than a second.
Pennington claimed her victory in the 50 back, beating all three Mammoths in the event with a time of 28.33 seconds as she easily bested the runner-up Cora Spelke of Amherst by nearly half a second. She also finished fourth in the 100 back at 1:03.10.
The 50 fly saw Paez and
Victoria Carroll '24 finish second and third, respectively, combining for seven points as a tandem. Paez finished in 27.31 while Carroll was right behind at 27.35.
The Cardinals began the night with a productive outing in the 200 medley relay, as Wesleyan's top team of
Mia Dezelic '27,
Sara Bohacek '26, Paez, and Kuhn clocked in at 1:51.48 for second place in the event.
The 200 free featured
Olivia Stevenson '25 placing first on the team and third overall with a time of 2:01.32. Bohaceck finished in third place in the 50 breast, touching the wall in 32.46 seconds, while she was fourth in the 100 breast (1:11.18).
Jadyn George '25 was fourth-best in the 50 free at 26.17.
Bella Kellner '24 landed three points with her third place finish in the 100 free at 56.20.
The 100 fly saw Paez lead a strong contingent of Cardinals with a second place finish, clocking in at 59.69 seconds.
Anne Conway '26 posted a time of 1:02.08 for fourth place while
Ilaria Valentini '25 had a time of 1:03.74.
Sophia Taubman '25 was third in both the 3-meter diving with 161.10 points and in the 1-meter at 143.86.
The Cardinals are back in action on December 1-2 with the Connecticut Cup, held at the Webster Family Natatorium.
