MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Mia Dezelic '27 and
Izzy Paez '26 swam top-five times as the Wesleyan women's swimming and diving team placed third in a quad meet featuring Williams College, Tufts University, and the Worcester Polytechnical Institute on Saturday afternoon at Wesleyan's Webster Natatorium.
Williams won the event with a total of 767 points, followed by Tufts (562), Wesleyan (247), and WPI (204). The Cardinals also saw 26 Top 10 final times including three relay finishes.
Paez grabbed the first top time of the afternoon for the Cardinals, placing fifth with a final 58.20 in the 100-yard butterfly. Paez was followed in the event by
Danielle Eforo '25 in 10
th, clocking a 59.85. In the 200-yard butterfly Paez touched the wall at 2:12.37 for a seventh-place finish.
Dezelic's 59:45 in the 100-yard backstroke was good for a fifth-place finish, for the second top time for the Cardinals in the meet.
Izzy Pennington '24 took 10
th with a final 1:00.83. Dezelic also picked up two eighth-place finishes, swimming a 27.97 in the 50-yard backstroke and a 2:11.45 in the 200-yard backstroke.
Amalie Little '25 was ninth behind Dezelic in the 50-yard backstroke with a 28.91. Pennington was also ninth in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing at 2:14.63.
A trio of Cardinals finished out the 100-yard breaststroke Top 10 as
Sara Bohacek '26 was eighth with a 1:11.16,
Nora Bootchk '26 was ninth at 1:12.71, and
Sadie Woodruff '26 closed out at 10 with a 1:13.11.
In the 500-yard freestyle distance event,
Olivia Stevenson '25 was ninth (5:25.02). The 400-yard individual medley saw
Lydia Brutvan '25 take ninth (4:50.28) and Stevenson 10
th (4:53.92).
Zoe Kuhn '26 placed 10
th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.57). Bohacek finished ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.76) and Woodruff 10
th (2:37.22).
Elena Baird '26 was just behind Paez in 10
th in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.55).
On the diving boards,
Sophie Taubman '25 placed ninth in the one-meter (139.40) and
Stella Oman '26 was 10
th (132.00). Taubman then placed ninth again on the three-meter (138.10)
The 200-medley relay team of Dezelic, Bohacek, Paez, and Kuhn finished ninth, clocking a 1:50.22. Pennington, Bootchk, Annie Conway '26, and
Bella Kellner '24 placed 10
th at 1:52.62. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Pennington, Paez, Kellner, and Kuhn were ninth with 1:42.04. And Kuhn, Pennington, Paez, and Dezelic swam and 3:44.28 in the 400-yard freestyle relay for a ninth-place finish.
The women's swim and dive team will return in 2024 when they head to Hamilton on Saturday, Jan. 13, for a 1 p.m. NESCAC matchup.
