MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – In a thriller on Sunday afternoon in the Cardinals' final match of the regular season, the Wesleyan women's squash team pulled out three five-set wins to defeat Hamilton 6-3 from the Rosenbaum Squash Center. The Cardinals finish the regular season with a 7-9 record while the Continentals finish 4-9. Both sides await news of a NESCAC Tournament bid.
The Continentals jumped out to a 2-0 lead with sweeps coming at #2 and #3 in the lineup, with all seven remaining matches going either four or five sets.
Wesleyan responded with victories in all three matches that went four sets.
Avika Pande '26 started the rally with a win at #1, defeating Sarah Stonestreet 11-13, 11-6, 11-6, 11-7.
Portia Pliam '25 came through at #4, defeating Hope Worcester 9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-5 while
Marangela James '24 took down Zoe Reinert 6-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-3 at #7 to give Wesleyan a 3-2 lead.
Needing wins on two remaining courts, the Cardinals moved one away from the match victory as
Sydney Smith '25 overcame a 2-0 deficit, winning the three remaining sets 11-4, 11-5, 15-13 to take the match.
Hamilton 's Eliza Glass kept the Continentals alive with a five-set win at #8 but the clinching point came on #6 from
Jaclyn Dichter '26 who toppled Zoe Reinert 9-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 11-4.
Laila Kewalramani '24 then made it a 6-3 win for the Cardinals as she defeated Natalie Harrity at #5 (11-6, 10-12, 11-4, 9-11, 11-9).
