MEDFORD, Mass. – In a Top 5 showdown, the No. 4 ranked Wesleyan men's crew team showed out in a big way, with the Cardinals' varsity 8 boat capturing a first-place finish with wins coming over No. 2 Tufts and No. 5 Bates on Saturday from the Malden River. Wesleyan's streak of first place finishes continues, with the Cardinals taking first in all four meets in the spring season thus far.
Opening against the Jumbos, Wesleyan came out with an inspired performance, crossing the line in 5:47.2 to record the fastest time of any boat in any race on the day from Malden River. Advancing to the final later in the day against Bates, the Cardinals earned another win, this time dispatching the Bobcats with a time of 5:51.1.
In other action throughout the day, Wesleyan's 2
nd varsity 8 boat managed a second-place finish. The 2
nd varsity 8 defeated Tufts with a time of 6:07 before falling to Bates by 5.7 seconds with a time of 6:07.1.
Wesleyan's 3
rd varsity 8 boat took third place, finishing just 1.1 seconds behind Tufts in the preliminary race (6:09.9) before the Cardinals defeated Bates with a time of 6:17.6 in the final.
The Cardinals look to prolong an incredible start to the spring season as Wesleyan competes in the Little Three Championship against Williams next Saturday from Onota Lake.
