HARTFORD, CT. – Led by
Mia Dezelic '27 with two first-place victories in the 50-yard backstroke and the 100-yard backstroke, the Wesleyan women's swimming and diving team fell to Trinity College 170-129 on Wednesday afternoon at Trinity's Natatorium. Wesleyan finished with five overall first-place wins and 39 Top 5 placements.
Dezelic's time in the 50-yard backstroke came in at a final 28.05. In the 100-yard backstroke, Dezelic touched the wall at exactly one minute.
Zoe Kuhn '26 won the 200-yard freestyle with a final time of 1:58.69. Kuhn also placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a clocked 25.29.
James LaCroix '27 swam a 5:33.55 to win the 500-yard freestyle. LaCroix also placed third with a 29.68 in the 50-yard backstroke.
Lydia Brutvan '25 had the final first-place time for the Cardinals, coming in at 4:48.48 in the 400-yard individual medley and placed third in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a final 11:24.02.
Elena Baird '26 took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, swimming a 11:21.98. Baird also finished with a 5:02.06 in the 400-yard individual medley for fourth place.
Olivia Stevenson '25 swam a 2:01.93 for second in the 200-yard freestyle. Stevenson finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle at 56.91. In the 100-yard butterfly,
Izzy Pennington '24 placed second at 1:01.78. With a 4:52.72, Pennington finished third in the 400-yard individual medley.
Bella Kellner '24 swam a 56.24 final that was good for second place in the 100-yard freestyle.
Nora Bootchk '26 placed second with a 1:12.38 in the 100-yard breaststroke and third in the 50-yard breaststroke at 32.68. With the final second-place finish,
Izzy Paez '26 swam a 27.37 in the 50-yard butterfly. Paez finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:04.29.
Swimming a 56.57 in the 100-yard freestyle,
Anne Conway '26 placed third. Conway picked up a second third-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly, finishing with a 27.66.
Sadie Woodruff '26 swam a 1:14.0 for third in the 100-yard breaststroke. Placing fourth in the 50-yard backstroke,
Madison Macalintal '26 finished with a 30.01. In the 50-yard breaststroke,
Sara Bohacek '26 placed fourth with 32.94.
Victoria Carroll '24 had two fourth-place times on the afternoon, swimming a 1:03.43 in the 100-yard backstroke and a 27.70 in the 50-yard butterfly. In the 500-yard freestyle,
Elle Immel '26 swam a 5:47.28 for fourth.
The Cardinals finished out the race events with an additional four fifth-place times.
Vivian Redmond '24 swam a 11:56.46 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Maya Milrod '24 swam a 1:04.54 in the 100-yard butterfly.
Mackenzie Hopkins '27 clocked a 1:16.52 in the 100-yard breaststroke. And
Sophia McDermott '27 finished with a 5:52.83 in the 500-yard freestyle.
In the 1-meter event,
Stella Oman '26 placed fifth with a score of 159.93.
Sophie Taubman '25 was sixth with a final 127.35 score. In the 3-meter, Oman was third with a 145.80 score and Taubman was fourth with a 122.03.
The Wesleyan 'A' relay team of Dezelic, Bohacek, Paez, and Kuhn placed second in the 400-yard medley relay with a final 4:02.66. The 'B' team of Pennington, Bootchk, Stevenson, and Conway placed fourth with a combined 4:11.29.
The 200-yard freestyle 'A' team of Kuhn, Pennington, Dezelic, and Bohacek finished with a 1:42.42 for second. The 'B' team of Baird, Carroll, Stevenson, and Conway finished third with a final 1:47.84. And the 'C' team of Hopkins, Immel,
Grace Donfield '26, and
Jadyn George '25 combined for fourth place at 1:51.78.
The Cardinals return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 20, when they had to Springfield to take on Springfield and Roger Williams beginning at 1 p.m.
