WORCESTER, Mass. – What a way to finish the fall season for the Wesleyan women's crew team who saw the varsity 8 place first while the 2V8, 3V8, and Novice 4 boats all had strong showings at the Wormtown Chase Regatta on Saturday from Lake Quinsigamond.
Coming off a runner-up showing at the Head of the Charles on Sunday, the Cardinals' varsity 8 put in a dominant performance, placing first out of 18 boats while crossing the line nearly 20 seconds faster than the runner-up Holy Cross. Wesleyan's top boat finished in 16:55.702 which was well ahead of the Crusaders, who compete at the NCAA Division I level, who finished in 17:14.939.
The strong day continued for the Cardinals who saw the 2V8 finish with the sixth-best time on the day at 17:40.223. Out of the six 2V8 boats competing on the day, Wesleyan's placed second in that group, trailing on Holy Cross and finishing more than 36 seconds faster than the third-best 2V8 (WPI).
Wesleyan's 3V8 came through with the fastest time out of the four 3V8 boats in the competition. The Cardinals' third varsity boat landed in 12
th place overall with a time of 18:43.098, holding off Coast Guard's 3V8 who finished just under two seconds behind Wesleyan.
Rounding out the day in the Novice 4 race, a group of first-time racers put together a second place finish out of five boats, crossing the line in 24:30.545, finishing runner-up to Conn. College and ahead of Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts Maritime.
The two-time defending NCAA runner-up head into the spring semester with plenty of momentum following three strong showings this fall.
