MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Led by
Mia Dezelic '27 with a first-place victory, the Wesleyan women's swimming and diving team hosted Amherst College on Monday evening, their second meet in three days, falling 225-75 in NESCAC action heading into the holiday weekend from the Webster Family Natatorium.
Picking up her third race victory in three days, Dezelic was victorious in the 50-yard backstroke with a clocked final time of 27.61 when she touched the wall. In the 100-yard individual medley, Dezelic came up just short of a second event win with a second-place finish, coming in at 1:01.87. In another top finish, Dezelic was third in the 100-yard freestyle at 55.02. Following Dezelic in the 50 back was
Jacqueline Constantine '28, placing third at 28.93.
In the diving pool,
Ella Hall '28 claimed third place in both the 1-meter and the 3-meter dives. Hall tallied 195.59 points in the 1-meter dive at the midway point of the meet. Closing out her night, Hall scored a 232.04 in the 3-meter.
Olivia Stevenson '25 collected two Top 3 finishes for the Cardinals across the meet. Placing third in the 400-yard individual medley, Stevenson clocked a 4:46.61 in the second women's event of the night before swimming a final 25.94 in the 50-yard freestyle for another third-place finish.
The fastest Cardinal in the pool for the 100-yard backstroke was
James LaCroix '27. LaCroix touched the wall in third place, swimming a 1:04.08. In the final distance race of the night,
Elena Baird '26 took third with a time of 5:27.10.
Kicking off the meet for the Cardinals in the 200-yard medley relay, Dezelic,
Clara Preisig '25,
Ilaria Valentini '25, and
Anne Conway '26 combined for a final 1:51.57 that placed the 'A' team in third place. Conway, Stevenson,
Kate Briegel '25, and Kiera Walsh '28 closed the meet with a third-place team finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a 1:43.94.
The Cardinals return to the pool on Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7, when they host the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championship.
