Imani Ochieng Named Third Team All-American

Ochieng becomes the first Cardinal defender in team history to earn All-American honors

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Senior defender Imani Ochieng '25 of the Wesleyan field hockey team was named a Third Team All-American, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Tuesday morning. Ochieng's first career All-American honor also makes her the first-ever defender in team history to be named an All-American.  Ochieng is the 11th All-American in team history while she closes out her career as the most-decorated defensive player in the history of Wesleyan field hockey. She is a two-time All-NESCAC First Team selection (2023, 2024), two-time All-Region pick (First Team in 2024, Second Team in 2023), and now the team's first-ever All-American defender. 

The stalwart defender continuing to shine at right back all throughout the 2024 season for the Cardinals who enjoyed their best single-season in nearly two decades, finishing 12-6 while qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time. She started all 18 games and ranked second among field players with 961 minutes played. Ochieng closed out her career starting 51 consecutive games while the senior played every possible game since the start of her sophomore year in 2022. A dynamic two-way player, Ochieng registered four goals and 13 assists for 21 career points. She posted two goals and two assists this season while ranking second on the team with 31 shots as her sweeping ability was a key weapon on penalty corners all year.
