MIDDLETOWN, CT. – The post-season accolades continue to roll in for junior goalkeeper
Molly Brumbach as United Soccer Coaches announced their 2024 All America teams on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 5, making Brumbach the second All-American selection for the Wesleyan women's soccer program.
Earning Second Team All-American honors, Brumbach becomes just the second Cardinal to earn All-American selection, joining Grace Devenney '23. Brumbach is the first goalkeeper to earn All-American honors for the program, setting a bar of excellence for future Cardinals.
The national honor is not the first award for Brumbach this season. On Wednesday, Dec. 4, Brumbach was announced as a First Team All-Region I honoree, becoming just the second goalkeeper (Sarah Hammond '23) to earn All-Region but the first, First Team selection. The awards don't stop there.
Prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament, Brumbach was announced as the 2024 NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year as well as a First Team All-NESCAC selection (Second Team '23) as the Cardinals earned record recognition. The distinguishment made Brumbach the first Defensive Player of the Year award winner for the program while also becoming the second goalkeeper to earn First Team selection, joining Ella Naef '01.
The 2024 season for the Cardinals was defensively driven, largely in part by Brumbach who recorded a career-high season. While the Cardinals went 14-2-3 overall (7-0-3 NESCAC), reaching a national ranking at No.4 and the top seed in the NESCAC for the first time, Brumbach recorded a 12-2-3 season. As the Cardinals ran a 16-game undefeated streak through the regular season, Brumbach logged 10 shutouts including a scoreless draw with Amherst. Through the regular season, Brumbach and the defense allowed only five goals against on 105 total shots.
Starting all 17 games played, Brumbach recorded a .825 save percentage while making 60 saves on 129 shots faced. During the First and Second rounds of the NCAA Tournament, Brumbach made a combined seven saves against SUNY Brockport and Scranton. The Cardinals defeated SUNY Brockport in the First Round, 4-1, before falling to Scranton the next day.
Brumbach was named the NESCAC Player of the Week on Oct. 7, after the Cardinals notched a two-game shutout week against Hartford and Amherst. It was the first time the Mammoths had been held without a goal by the Cardinals since 2019.
