MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Leading the Wesleyan women's swimming and diving team with two first-place finishes,
Olivia Stevenson '25 and
Mia Dezelic '27 powered Wesleyan through the weekend as they played host to the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships at the Webster Family Natatorium.
Amherst finished as the top team at the event, followed by Coast Guard, Trinity, Wesleyan, and East Conn.
Stevenson, who dominated the distance events, kicked off the weekend of competition with a first-place victory in the 500-yard freestyle as she touched the wall with a final time of 5:08.75. On Saturday morning Stevenson swam the 1,650-yard freestyle, clocking a 17:51. 99 for first place in the race and her second of the weekend. In the 400-yard individual medley, Stevenson placed third with a final 4:40.45 before placing fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:57.55.
The first win of the weekend for Dezelic came in the 100-yard backstroke. Dezelic won the race with a final time of 58.11. In one of the final events of the weekend for the Cardinals, Dezelic won the 200-yard backstroke, finishing the race with a 2:05.94.
Elena Baird '26 recorded two second-place finishes in the 500-free and the 1,650-free, following Stevenson in both. In the 500, Baird swam a time of 5:13.10. Baird then clocked an 18:05.50 in the 1,650. Baird also picked up a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:12.05.
Ella Hall '28 led the Cardinals from the diving board with two Top 3 finishes. In the 3-meter, Hall placed third with a 201.05. In the 1-meter, Hall placed third again with a final score of 203.55.
Thisbe Diamond '28 placed fourth in the 1-meter with a 195.25.
The combined efforts of Dezelic, Stevenson,
Clara Preisig '25, and
Anne Conway '26 in the 400-yard freestyle relay earned the Cardinals a second-place finish as they swam a 3:36.88.
The Cardinals return to action in 2025 when they travel to Babson on Saturday, Jan. 4, for a 12 p.m. start.
