MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Wesleyan women's swimming & diving team sits in ninth place through two days of competition at the 2024 NESCAC Championships hosted by Middlebury College. The Cardinals saw a couple of relay teams move up places, while
Mia Dezelic '27 dropped nearly a second off her previous-best time in the 200 IM to highlight the opening two days for Wesleyan.
The Cardinals started with a strong showing on Thursday night in the 800 free relay, with the group of
Zoe Kuhn '26,
Olivia Stevenson '25, Dezelic, and
Izzy Pennington '24 shaving more than 17 seconds off their seed time to land an eighth-place finish with a time of 7:43.45.
In Friday's action, Wesleyan took another eighth-place finish, this time in the 400 medley relay as Dezelic,
Sara Bohacek '26,
Izzy Paez '26, and Kuhn combined for a time of 3:52.65, clocking in more than 10 seconds faster than their seed time (4:02.66).
Another Top 10 finish came in the 200 free relay as
Anne Conway '26, Pennington,
Bella Kellner '24, and Dezelic swam the event in 1:37.85, finishing ahead of Conn. College and Trinity. In the 200 free relay B final, Paez,
Eloise Lavacek '24, Stevenson, and
Victoria Carroll '24 moved up three places to finish eighth in the B finals (19
th overall in the event).
Bohacek clocked in at 30.87 seconds in the 50 breast consolation final, placing 16
th overall.
Nora Bootchk '26 shaved time off her prelim time in the pre-consolation final, finishing in 30.59 seconds to place 19
th overall.
Paez was the highest-finisher on the day for Wesleyan, taking 11
th place in the 50 fly with a time of 25.92 seconds in the consolation final. Conway beat her prelim time with a mark of 26.23 seconds in the consolation final. Carroll recorded a career-best time of 26.19 seconds in the 50 fly, which was 15
th-fastest overall and second-best in the pre-consolation final.
Stevenson dropped nearly one second off her prelim time in the 500 free, finishing in 5:10.07 on Friday to earn a 21
st place finish out of 59 competitors.
Pennington was fourth-best in the consolation final, finishing 12
th overall with a time of 26.84 seconds in the 50 back.
Dezelic completed a busy day of competition in the 200 IM, dropping nearly a second off her prelim time in the consolation final, touching the wall in 2:09.11 to finish 15
th overall.
Stella Oman '26 led the way in the 1-meter diving, landing a mark of 301.70 to place 13th overall in the prelims.
Competition resumes on Saturday at 10 AM for swimming prelims while diving trials are at 2 PM and the senior ceremony/finals is at 5:45 PM.
