Men's track and field dominate the 3000m event at home spring meet.

Cardinals dominate 3000m at J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Braving nor'easter conditions, the Wesleyan men's track and field team, led by freshman Noah Mahoney '27 with a first-place finish, contended as the top performer in the 3000m event, taking five placements while the team took 16 Top 10 placements in their home spring meet, the J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic from the Anderson Track on Saturday afternoon.

With temps in the mid 30's and rain blowing sideways, Mahoney led a group of five Cardinals in the 3000m event as he crossed the finish line for first place with a flat 9:00.00. Mahoney was followed in second place by Bruce Lenes '26 at 9:04.15, Rob D'Aquila '26 in third place with personal best 9:04.62, Jude Mourad '27 in seventh place at 9:28.72 to round out the Top 10, and Jack Garza '27 finished just five places back in 12th with a final 10:01.38.

Carlo Fedolfi '27 opened the event with Top 10 placements in the 100m and the 200m. Fedolfi ran a personal best 11.52 for fifth place in the 100m, and a 23.94 in the 200m for ninth place. In the 800m, George Lepska '25 snagged second place with a final time at 1:57.51. In 11th, Ben Taffet '26 ran a 2:04.77.

Taking fourth in the 1500m, Nate Fogarty '25 ran a 4:04.83. Liam Calhoun '26 took 12th at 4:12.11, and Aidan Ward '24 came in at 14th, running a 4:12.84.

The 4x800m relay team of Lepska, Calhoun, Fogarty, and Ward ran a 8:19.42 as the only team in the event.

Anish Visht '24 took seventh in the pole vault with a 3.80m finish.

The Cardinals saw two personal best distances in the men's long jump as Josh Ng '27 placed seventh at 6.14m and Daniel Bench '27 took 12th with a 5.63m.

Javier Orelanna '25 tied Amherst's David Brown for second place in the shot put as they each came away with a 13.90m finish. In fifth, Rami Hayes-Messinger '26 threw for a 12.77m. Hayes-Messinger was also sixth in the hammer throw with a 37.20m and eighth in the javelin throw coming in at 36.47m.

In the discus throw, Will Dollhopf '25 threw for a 33.78m that was good for fourth place.

Finishing ahead of Hayes-Messinger in the javelin throw was Eli Liedka '27 in sixth place with a personal best 38.70m.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, March 30, when they head to Tufts for the Snowflake Classic.
