MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's swimming & diving team captured five first place finishes on the night but fell just short in the team scoring as the Cardinals lost a dual meet to Trinity, 159-140, on Wednesday night from the Webster Family Natatorium.
Leading the way for the Cardinals, with two first place finishes and a second place, was
Olivia Stevenson '25. The senior captain led Wesleyan with wins in the 500 free and 1000 free while she added a runner-up finish in the 400 IM. Stevenson's busy night started with a dominating performance in the 1000 free, capturing first place by more than a 25 second margin with her time of 11:04.16. She followed that up with another impressive win, placing first with a time of 5:22.25 in the 500 free, before adding a runner-up in the 400 IM as she touched the wall in 4:49.14.
Stevenson was also involved in the 200 free relay for the Cardinals, as she teamed up with
Mia Dezelic '27,
Clara Preisig '25, and
Zoe Kuhn '26 for a second-place finish with a time of 1:41.75.
Dezelic added a win for the Cardinals as she took first in the 100 back, finishing in 59.24 seconds, while the sophomore also placed second in the 50 back (28.20) and contributed on a second place showing in the 200 medley relay, as the Cardinals' A group finished in 1:51.79.
Joining Dezelic in that 200 medley was Preisig,
Sara Bohacek '26 and
Izzy Paez '26. Bohacek was second-fastest in both the 50 breast (31.22 seconds) and 100 breast (1:09.51) while she was third in the 200 free (2:03.92). Paez was runner-up in the 100 fly (1:00.27) and third in the 50 fly (27.31).
Ella Hall '28 went 2-for-2 on the night, leading the diving contingent with a pair of first place finishes in the 1m and 3m. Hall recorded a personal-best of 235.12 in the 1-meter, topping the field, while she went for 222.52 in the 3-meter to earn her second first-place finish on the night.
Thisbe Diamond '28 was runner-up to Hall in the 1m at 216.90 while
Sophie Taubman '25 placed second in the 3m (178.87).
Rounding out the field for Wesleyan was Kuhn who earned a pair of second place finishes in the 50 free (25.47) and 100 free (26.89) while
Keira Walsh '28 placed second in the 200 free (2:03.79).
A busy week for Wesleyan continues Saturday as the Cardinals host Springfield and Roger Williams for a tri-meet that begins at Noon. That meet also serves as Senior Day for the Cardinals as it is the last home meet for Wesleyan in the 2024-25 season.
