MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Posting a pair of victories and second-place finish,
Olivia Stevenson '25 led the Wesleyan women's swimming and diving team to their first victories of the season, defeating Springfield College, 153.5-147, and Roger Williams University, 204-90, in their home tri-meet on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the Class of 2025. Wesleyan boasted four first-place finishes and 20 Top 3 placements.
Stevenson was responsible for the first individual triumph of the meet for the Cardinals, completing the 1650 free in just under 19 minutes. Stevenson's final time of 18:47.66 earned her the distance race win. Later in the day, Stevenson laid claim to a win in the 500 free, touching the wall at 5:28.25. Stevenson's final race came in the 100 IM and placed second with a time of 1:04.13.
The 100 back went to
Amalie Little '25 for the second individual first-place finish. Little won the race with a clocked time of 1:01.74.
The Cardinals took several hard-earned runner-up finishes throughout the meet. After joining the Cardinals' medley relay team,
Sara Bohacek '26 placed second in the 50 breast with a final lap time of 32.14. Bohacek was again the runner-up in the 100 breast as she swam a 1:10.39.
Izzy Paez '26 placed second in the 100 fly, swimming a 59.66.
Second place also went to
Zoe Kuhn '26 in the 100 free as she finished at 55.60. In the 200 free,
Jacqueline Constantine '28 finished at 2:03.17. Finishing second in the 200 free was
Danielle Eforo '25 with a 2:03.17. Kiera Walsh '28 followed Stevenson in the 500 free by just three seconds at 5:31.66.
The women's diving squad hit the scoresheet with two fourth-place finishes to snag extra points for the Cardinals. In the 1-meter dive,
Thisbe Diamond '28 scored a 238.95. Following in the 3-meter dive,
Ella Hall '28 was given a score of 236.40.
Opening the meet, the Cardinals 200 medley relay team of
Ilaria Valentini '25, Bohacek, Paez, and Kuhn combined for a first-place victory with a time of 1:50.91. The Wesleyan 'B' team placed second with a 1:52.34 and consisted of Constantine,
Clara Preisig '25, Eforo, and
Kate Briegel '25.
In the 400 free relay, Preisig, Kuhn, Eforo, and Stevenson swam a final 3:47.22 and placed second.
The Cardinals return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 25, when they head to Colby for a NESCAC showdown beginning at 1 p.m.
