WATERVILLE, ME. – Led by
Portia Pliam '25 and
Avika Pande '26, the Wesleyan women's squash team subdued Colby College in a 8-1 NESCAC victory on Saturday afternoon to advance to 9-1 on the season from Colby's Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center.
Leading the way with 3-0 sweeps at #2 and #8, Pliam and Pande both secured match wins under 25 minutes. Pande made easy work of Margaret Motch with a final tally of 11-7, 11-5, 12-10. Pliam defeated Haley Coon 11-5, 11-7, 11-6 with the first point of the day.
At #4,
Jaclyn Dichter '26 was forced to rally through Amanda Miller tying the match up at two games apiece after taking an early lead. Dichter put away 11-2, 11-8 wins before Miller came back and posted 12-10, 13-11 tallies. Dichter claimed game five with a 11-8 final and a 3-2 match win.
Aanya Anand '26 at #3 volleyed through the first three games with India Spencer in a back-and-forth matchup. Anand put Spencer away for a 3-2 victory with 10-12, 11-0, 12-14, 11-8, 11-8 final game scores.
The final 3-2 matchup was a victory for
Leandra Sze '26 at #7. Facing Victoria Thill, Sze took a two-set lead before Thill attempted a comeback. Sze's final record clocked in at 11-6, 13-11, 5-11, 8-11, 11-8.
Rachel Matamoros '24,
Katherine Risden '28, and
Caroline Caiati '28 earned 3-1 wins at #5, #6, and #9.
The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, Jan. 26, when they travel to No. 20 Bates for a 12 p.m. start.
