LEWISTON, ME. – Following a victory on Saturday afternoon, the Wesleyan women's squash team was defeated on the road at No. 20 Bates College on Sunday with a 5-4 NESCAC loss from Bates' squash center.
The second half of the Cardinals starting lineup came up big with four wins, but the comeback was unsuccessful as the Bobcats would pull away with the extra point.
Portia Pliam '25 swept at #8, 3-0, defeating Neha Taneja 11-2, 11-7, 11-9 in just 17 minutes. The second and last 3-0 match sweep for the Cardinals was completed by
Leandra Sze '26 at #6 as she tossed Angelina Amastal 11-6, 11-4, 11-7.
At #9,
Caroline Caiati '28 took an early lead in game one only for Dainalee Velez to tie the match up at two. Making quick work to rally back, Caiati took games three and four, defeating Velez 3-1 with 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 11-7 final scores.
The longest match and final point for the Cardinals was
Katherine Risden '28 with a 3-2 victory over Savannah Thomson at #6. Thomson led through the first game before Risden took the lead with wins through two and three. Thomson would tie the match up again at two, but Risden earned the third point in game five, tallying 10-12, 11-8, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7 scores.
The Bobcats picked up wins at #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Feb. 1, when they host Hamilton beginning at 11 a.m.
