MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Competing in what was dubbed the College Squash Association (CSA) Women's Match of the Week, the No. 19 ranked Wesleyan women's squash team suffered an 8-1 defeat to No. 18 Bowdoin on Tuesday morning from the Rosenbaum Squash Center. Wesleyan's loss is their first of the season, dropping to 5-1, while the Polar Bears remain unbeaten at 4-0.
Portia Pliam '25 landed the lone win for the Cardinals in the match, as she came from two games down to reverse sweep Mira Karande at #8. Pliam lost the opening two games 11-6 and 13-11 before roaring back with close wins of 12-10, 11-9, and 11-7 to clinch the victory.
Sydney Smith '25 lost a tight match at #9 that went into a deciding fifth game. Smith landed a 11-3 first game win and extended the match with a 11-6 win in the fourth game but fell just a few points shy in game 5 as she was defeated 11-8 by Elizabeth Kennedy.
Other Cardinals who extended their matches to four games included
Mira Bakshi '26 at #1,
Avika Pande '26 at #2, and
Aanya Anand '26 at #3.
Wesleyan is back in action on Saturday with a 12:30 PM start against No. 23 St. Lawrence from the Rosenbaum Squash Center.
