MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan wrestling team earned a host of New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) end of year awards, as announced by the association on Tuesday afternoon. Three Cardinals earned All-NEWA honors while 13 earned a spot on the NEWA All-Academic Team.
CJ Shea headlines the group as an All-NEWA First Team selection, having gone 37-3 in the 2024-25 season while winning the 165 pound title and Most Outstanding Wrestler award at the NCAA Northeast Regional and going on to earn All-American honors with his seventh place finish at nationals. Over his final two years as a Cardinal, Shea won 66 matches while becoming the ninth Cardinal All-American in team history. He is a three-time All-Region wrestler and the first Cardinal to win a regional title at a weight class of less than 174 since 2010.

The reigning NEWA Rookie of the Year
Hayden Myers '27 backed up a terrific rookie season with a 33-7 sophomore year that saw him placed third at 141 in the NCAA Northeast Regional, earning a qualifying spot into the NCAA Championships for the first time in his career. Ranked Top 10 nationally in his weight class for most of the year, Myers went 12-0 in the dual match portion of the season. He sports a 50-13 record in his two years at Wesleyan with 18 wins by pinfall.

Making the NEWA All-Rookie Team is
Ronnie Christolin '28 who went 17-10 in his rookie season wrestling at 157 in the 2024-25 campaign. Christolin won a pair of matches in his first career NCAA Regional, earning All-Region honors with his eighth place finish at 157.
