MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – On a night where the Wesleyan women's swimming and diving team celebrated their six Class of 2022 members, the Cardinals came through with strong performances across the board to earn a 161-137 win over Conn. College on Friday night from the Wesleyan Natatorium. A significant win on many levels, the Cardinals (6-6) picked up their first over the Camels since 2006, breaking a 14-meet losing stream.

It was a very positive start for Wesleyan as the first two events were won by the Cardinals, starting with the 200 medley relay as the top Cardinal team of
Izzy Pennington '24,
Mengmeng Gibbs '22,
Amanda McHugh '22 and
Sarah Schou '23 came through with a time of 1:50.05 to just eek out a win over the Camels' top team who finished in 1:50.14.
Olivia Stevenson '25 continued the early momentum with a dominating win in the 1000 free, posting a time of 10:43.60 to best the runner-up finisher by nearly 19 seconds.
Pennington came back with a runner-up finish in the 100 back (1:00.08 time) while Gibbs picked up a win in the 100 breast as her time of 1:07.01 was well over three seconds faster than second place finisher Sarah Franco of Conn. College.
Schou gave it a good run in both the 50 and 100 free, just missing first place by less than half a second as the junior posted a time of 25.16 seconds in the 50 and she finished the 100 in 54.55 seconds.

Wesleyan continued to dominate in the diving competition as
Zoe Paglia '23 edged out her teammates
Talia Lanckton '22 and
Carolina Crosby '25 with a final score of 201.15 while Lanckton posted 200.32 and Crosby had 199.65 as the Cardinals went 1-2-3 in the 1-meter dive. Later in the 3-meter dive, it was Lanckton who came through with a winning mark of 199.12 while Crosby finished second and
Ola Szopa '24 was third.
Gibbs was victorious for the third time on the day (twice in individual, once in relay) as she took the 200 breast with another dominating performance as she clocked in at 2:26.29 while
Delaney Hopkins '25 was runner-up with 2:30.64.
Stevenson gave it a great run in the 500 free, hard-charging in the final few laps as her time of 5:15.19 was good enough for second behind Vaughn Ammon of Conn. College who finished in 5:14.37. McHugh also just missed on a victory as she touched in 59.74 seconds to take the runner-up spot in the 100 fly.
Trying to hold off the Camels down the stretch, it was
Ainsley Dodson '25 who came through with a clutch victory in the 200 IM as her time of 2:12.25 was easily good enough for first place as the runner-up was 2.30 seconds behind Dodson.
Putting a bow on the day was the Cardinals in the 200 free relay as another relay competition went Wesleyan's way as Schou, Gibbs, Pennington and
Megan Bauerle '24 combined for a 1:39.36 to take first and secure the dual meet win.
It is championship season time for Wesleyan who head to Colby for the NESCAC Championships on Feb. 10-13
