MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – In a pair of close matches, the Wesleyan women's squash team suffered defeats to Georgetown (6-3) and No. 18 ranked Colby (5-4) on Saturday from the Rosenbaum Squash Center. Wesleyan falls to 0-2 on the season and will host No. 16 Bowdoin on Sunday at 10:00 AM to close out the weekend.
Starting the day with a match against the Hoyas of Georgetown, Wesleyan built an early 2-1 lead with wins coming from
Jaclyn Dichter '26 at #7 and
Marangela James '24 at #8. Dichter defeated Sarah Conner 11-6, 11-7, 11-6 in her collegiate debut while James toppled Nina Flinn 11-7, 8-11, 11-6, 11-3.
After the Hoyas responded with another point,
Julissa Mota '26 put the Cardinals back out in front with a 11-9, 11-5, 5-11, 11-5 win at #9 over Isha Roa. From that point on, however, Georgetown rattled off four unanswered wins to take the match with a 6-3 score line.
In the nightcap against the Mules, the match came down to a deciding fifth set on court 5 as
Laila Kewalramani '24 and Amanda Miller were locked in a tight battle that would ultimately decide the match. Kewalramani opened with wins in the first two sets 11-5, 12-0 but Miller came roaring back and swept the final three sets 11-7, 11-9, 11-8 to win it for Colby.
It was back-and-forth in the early going as the Cardinals once again dominated the matches on the lower seeds in the field. Dichter and Mota each swept their respective matches in less than 20 minutes while James also picked up her second win of the day with a triumph at #8 over Juliette Love.
Leandra Sze '26 recorded her first collegiate win, defeating Clara Lehv 11-5, 8-11, 12-10, 11-7 at #6. But Colby was too much at the top of the lineup, securing wins on #1 through #5 to take the victory.
