Women’s Hockey Plays to a Tie Against No. 13 Endicott, 1-1

Wesleyan has not recorded a loss since the first game of the season

Box Score BEVERLY, Mass. - The Wesleyan women's hockey team plays to a tie in a non-conference battle against No. 13 ranked Endicott, 1-1. Wesleyan The Cardinals managed an early first period goal by virtue of Bridget Cornell '23, then held the Seagulls without a goal over the next two periods leading into the 3rd. Endicott was able to net the equalizer in the final seven minutes leading to an overtime period where the two both went scoreless. Wesleyan is now without a loss in their last five games after opening the season with a defeat at the hands of Connecticut College. Wesleyan is now 4-1-1 (1-1-0 NESCAC), while Endicott goes to 6-3-1.

The Cardinals got the off to a hot start, scoring in the first 10 minutes of the game. Cornell made it happen for the Cards, breaking the tie to give Wesleyan a lead over the nationally ranked Seagulls. Endicott got a power play chance just after the Wesleyan goal, procuring two shots on net, but Rei Halloran '23 made both saves to maintain the one-goal advantage for the Cardinals. The 2nd period saw no penalties or goals, but it did see a plethora of shots from both sides. Halloran made 14 saves in the 2nd period alone, while Seagulls' goalie Michaela O'Brien made five saves to send the game into the final period of regulation with the Cardinals up 1-0.

Halloran was impressive again in the opening minutes of the 3rd period stopping a flurry of shots to maintain the 1-0 lead. The Cardinals defense in front of Halloran was holding up to start the period as well, but a mid-period penalty lead to a good scoring chance for the Seagulls. Endicott put through the equalizer less than 30 seconds into the power play, when Samantha Fantasia was finally able to beat the Wesleyan goalkeeper off a pass from Madison Hentosh. Effie Tournas '25 managed one final shot attempt on goal to end the 3rd period, but O'Brien turned it away to set up a five-minute overtime period. In the overtime period, Wesleyan was able to get four shots on goal, but not the game-winner. The Cardinals played the final minute and 10 seconds of the period on a power play, with all three of their shots stopped by the Endicott goalkeeper.

Cornell scored the only goal of the game for the Cardinals, her first goal of the season and 7th of her career. Rei Halloran was special in goal again, making 38 saves. The 38 saves are a season-high and the 3rd most saves she has made in a game in her Cardinals' career. The Seagulls outshot the Cardinals 38-24.

Wesleyan will return to the ice for a home non-conference game at Spurrier-Snyder Rink where they will take on Post University on Tuesday, December 6th.
