WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wesleyan men's crew team took third place out of five teams on Saturday morning in the varsity 8 boat at a meet hosted by WPI.
The varsity 8 boat (
Haley Fish '22 – coxswain,
Hayden Galusza '22,
Joe Kagan '23, Chris Saade '25, Chris Saade '25,
Oliver Diamond '23,
Paul Kiyonaga '25,
Jimmy McShane '22, Hugo Harrington and
Inesh Vytheswaran '25) suffered some technical difficulties with the conditions in the early going and fell behind the field by a boat length in the opening 250 meters. The team rebounded in the middle stages to overtake a few teams but it wasn't enough to overcome the early challenges and the Cardinals placed third out of five teams with a time of 6:18.2. Hamilton finished first at 6:14.58 while WPI was second at 6:15.01.
In the second varsity 8 boat –
Leo Rosenblum '25 – coxswain,
Max Ewing '24,
Theodore Zarobell '24,
Nate Newcomer '25,
Oliver Saffery '23,
Nick Dillon '23,
Freddie Bell '25,
Finn Brown '23 and
Hudson Dore '22 – suffered a broken seat at the halfway point which took the team off course. Once the Cardinals regrouped and, they completed the course but well outside contention against the three other teams (WPI, Hamilton and UMass).
Wesleyan looks for a rebound next weekend as the Cardinals head to the Malden River to take on the host Tufts as well as Bates and UMass.
