HARTFORD, Conn. – For the second time this season,
Grace Devanny '23 is the owner of a new outdoor school record. Having previously established the outdoor 400m school record at Amherst two weekends ago, Devanny added another on Saturday as her time in the 200m was good enough to reset the record book. Her performance helped lead the Wesleyan women's outdoor track & field team to a fourth place showing out of 10 teams at the Trinity Invitational on Saturday.
Devanny's 200m time of 24.87 seconds on Saturday bested former All-American sprinter Jenna Flateman '03 who's career-best time of 24.88 seconds had stood since 2003. Devanny's 24.87 seconds was good enough for a runner-up finish in the 200m, finishing behind Nicole Stewart of Smith (24.82).
Augusta Burhans '23 continued the strong showing from the Cardinal sprinters as the junior posted 12.85 seconds in the 100m preliminaries to earn a spot in the final. She then came through with a time of 12.61 seconds that was good enough for third place in the event.
In the 400m,
Kenzie Kelly '25 was the fourth-fastest overall in a field of 24 sprinters as she posted a new personal-best time of 59.66 seconds, going sub-1 minute for the first time in her career.
The 800m field was dominated by Cardinal middle distance runners as the indoor 800m All-American
Maeve Hoffman '23 impressed in her first appearance of the spring season, landing a first place result with a time of 2:16.80. Abi Pipkin '22 was right behind in second place, finishing with a personal-best time of 2:18.75.
Addie Thomas '22 (2:22.99, 6
th) and
Sophie Scobell '22 (PR time: 2:23.49, 7
th) also showed well in the 800m.
Hoffman continued to dominate the day in the middle distance as the junior certainly made the most of her first appearance of the outdoor season, capturing a win in the 1500m with a career-best time of 4:42.29, defeating the runner-up finisher by nearly a full five seconds.
Cornelia Carragher '25 joined Hoffman in the Top 5 as the first-year place fifth overall with a career-best time of 5:02.35.
Mallory Elliott '23 continues to show well in the high jump, posting a career-best 1.52m for the second straight week which landed her a runner-up finish in a field of 13 jumpers.
Erika Kluge '23 led the Wesleyan contingent in the pole vault with a personal-best mark of 3.10m.
Sarah Schlosberg '25 earned sixth place in the long jump with 4.84m.
Chiara Christie '23 also performed well in the javelin as her throw of 30.23m placed fourth overall.
Wesleyan will next head to Hamilton College on Saturday, April 30 to compete in the 2022 NESCAC Championships in Clinton, New York.
