NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. – The Wesleyan men's golf team placed eighth out of 10 teams at the NESCAC Championships held at Yahnundasis Golf Club. Wesleyan shaved 20 strokes off their round 1 score to move up from ninth, finishing eighth in the final competition of the season for the Cardinals. The host Hamilton won title by 12 strokes over runner-up Tufts.
Competing in his first career NESCAC Championship,
Aryaman Himatsingka '24 impressed with a team-leading 82-76-158 for the weekend, as his round 2 76 was the low round in the competition for the Cardinals. Himatsingka finished in a tie for 20
th place overall, shooting +16 and just +5 in round 2, as he carded two birdies and finished an impressive -1 over his final 11 holes in round 2. He finished in a tie for fourth-best among all golfers in par 4s, finishing a combined +6 on those holes in the two-round tournament.
Ambrose Koo '23 was the second-best for the tournament, finishing with 83-78-161 for a +19 showing overall and in a tie for 25
th place in the player leaderboard. Koo dominated the par 5s, finishing E for the weekend on those holes while he was the team-leader in the par 3s, sitting at +5. He tied with Himatsingka with two birdies (one in each round) while he was very consistent on Sunday, recording nine pars and nothing worse than a bogey on any of his 18 holes.
Rounding out the Wesleyan lineup was
Jacob Fain '23 (87-80-167) and
Daniel Kraft '23 (85-83-168). Fain moved up six spots in the player leaderboard with his second round 80, as he recorded two birdies over the tournament. Kraft carded a birdie on the par 4 17
th hole in round 2, as he had moments of brilliance, recording a +4 front nine in round 1 and a +3 back nine in round 2.
