WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wesleyan men's crew varsity eight boat won the third level final to take 13
th place out of 18 teams competing at the National Invitational Championships on Sunday.
Starting the day in heat 1, the Cardinal varsity eight boat crossed the line in 6:15.178 to take fifth place out of six teams in the heat and 12
th place out of 18 teams in preliminary action. In the third level final later in the afternoon, Wesleyan's boat crossed the line in 6:14.616 to take first place by a hair over Coast Guard (6:15.823) who was just over a second behind the Cardinals' time.
Wesleyan's second varsity eight boat made it two-for-two in third level finals as the Cardinals claimed another win. Racing to a time of 6:27.416 in the preliminaries, Wesleyan finished with a 6:28.4 in the third level final to beat the runner-up UMass by more than four seconds and take 13
th place out of 16 teams.
A third varsity eight boat was sent out in the water and the group crossed in 7:09.424 in the preliminary heat, followed by a 6:52.130 in the petite final to claim second place in that race and eighth place overall out of nine teams.
