STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Wesleyan men's track & field team saw the school record in the 1000m broken twice at the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday afternoon. Minutes after
Nate Fogarty '25 broke the program record that had stood since 2018,
George Lepska eclipsed Fogarty's time by 0.11 seconds and is the new school record holder in the event.
Lepska and Fogarty both scored Top 10 finishes out of 55 competitors in the event. Lepska landed in eighth place with his new school record time of 2:29.54. Fogarty was the ninth-fastest on the day with his then-school record time of 2:29.65. The school record heading into the day was 2:30.35 set by Grant van Inwegen '20 back in 2018.
Ben Taffet '26 ran well in his first appearance in the 800m, landing in 16
th place out of 51 runners with a time of 2:00.30.
Alex Kermath just missed a Top 10 finish in the 3000m, as he clocked in at 8:50.92 which was good enough for 11th place.
Javier Orellana '25 threw 13.04m in the shot put to take ninth place.
Next up for the Cardinals is a two-meet weekend as Wesleyan plays host to an Indoor Invite on Saturday, January 28 before traveling to Boston for Middlebury's New England Small College Invitational.
