MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Picking up four second-place finishes, two at the hands of
Mia Dezelic '27, the Wesleyan women's swimming and diving team placed fourth out of eight teams at the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships with a final score of 732 on Saturday, Dec. 3, from the Webster Family Natatorium.
The women had nine Top 5 finishes over the course of the two-day event as three of the relay teams picked up Top 5 finishes as well. Combined with the men, Wesleyan placed fourth overall with 1352 points.
Dezelic placed second in the 200-yard individual medley with a final time of 2:10.45. Dezelic also clocked a final 2:07.85 in the 200-yard backstroke. In the 100-yard backstroke, Dezelic finished third at 58.97.
Izzy Paez '26 and
Elena Baird '26 also claimed second-place times. Paez placed second in the 100-yard butterfly as she finished with a final 57.20. Baird in the 1,650-yard freestyle distance event, touched the wall at 18:21.00.
Paez also placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle. Paez's final time came in at 54.04. The Cardinals also clocked fifth-place times to help round out the Top 5 scoring for the team.
Olivia Stevenson '25 swam a 5:18.09 in the 500-yard freestyle. She also placed fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle behind Baird with a 18:41.41.
Izzy Pennington '24 finished the 50-yard freestyle at 24.80, and
Zoe Kuhn swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.63.
Sophie Taubman '25 placed sixth in the 3-meter dive with a score of 15.00.
The women's 200-yard freestyle relay placed fourth with a final 1:40.56. In the 200-yard medley relay, the women finished third at 1:50.50. And the 400-yard freestyle relay team finished with a 3:40.25 for fourth place.
The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 9, when they matchup with Williams, Tufts, and WPI beginning at 2 p.m. at the Webster Family Natatorium.
