Box Score BIDDEFORD, ME. – A dominant offensive effort driven by
Dylan Green '26 pushed the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team to a 6-1 victory, their largest differential of the season, over the University of New England on Saturday evening as the sophomore totaled two goals, her first of the season, from UNE's Ice Arena.
Green opened the scoring just under halfway through the first period after the Cardinals were forced back into their defensive zone as UNE rushed the puck on a turnover. A back-and-forth battle in the neutral zone gave
Aiko Sims '26 possession of the puck at the Cardinals' blue line before she dumped the puck towards the UNE goal.
Jenna Rekoske '24 beat Green to the puck at the wall and made the pass behind the goal for Green's tapped in backhand goal. UNE's Amand Forziati tied the game up at one late in the first to send both teams into the second period.
Gaining a breakaway from the left wall at the line, Green struck again two minutes into the second period for the Cardinals to take the 2-1 lead.
Isabelle Allieri '25 forced a turnover at the line to give Green the pick quick up and a dash for the UNE goaltender Kaleigh Laurendeau, taking her shot from the center of the left face-off circle.
Caroline Kee put the Cardinals up by two goals, cushioning the lead as Aimée Seppenwolde '26 forced another turnover in the Cardinals end and made the cross-ice pass from out above the left circle to Kee for a quick snap above Laurendeau's blocker.
Jenna Stevens '24 notched an unassisted goal at 13:32 of the third period, taking a heavy-handed snapshot just inside the blue line as she was left unattended by UNE. Rekoske scored her goal on the evening three minutes after Stevens as she won the face-off for the Cardinals, passing it back to Seppenwolde and then out to Green. Green sent the puck back in to Rekoske for a goal at the right post. Seppenwolde notched her first of the game after two assists less than a minute after Reskoske with two and a half minutes remaining in regulation. A fight for the puck in the neutral zone allowed Seppenwolde to keep possession for a high shot into the left ninety of the goal.
The Cardinals outshot the Nor'easter's 66-13, putting 36 total shots on goal. The Cardinals also killed two penalties and beat the Nor'easters at the face-off, winning 40 draws thanks to
Shannon Burke '25 and Rekoske, both with double-digit wins as Burke totaled 12 and Rekoske with 11.
In goal for the Cardinals,
Rei Halloran '23 made six saves with only one goal against. Laurendeau made 30 saves at the opposite end of the ice.
The Cardinals will return to action after the winter break on Tuesday, Jan. 2, when they head to Connecticut College for a 3 p.m. NESCAC puck drop.
