SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Jacob Fain '23 won both of his singles matches to highlight the effort turned in by the Wesleyan men's golf team at the 2023 Little Three Championship held on Tuesday at the Orchards Golf Club. Wesleyan fell to both Williams and Amherst in the event.
 
The tournament is played in a unique three ball format in which each team plays simultaneous match play duals against each of the other two teams. Each team has four pairs play alternate shot matches in the morning before eight singles matches in the afternoon. The scores of the three duals are added to determine the Little Three Champion.
 
Wesleyan was downed 10-2 by Amherst and 9.5-2.5 in their matchup against Williams. Williams went on to claim the Little Three crown with 16 total points. Amherst was second with 15.5 and Wesleyan tallied 4.5 points.
 
Fain was the standout on the day for Wesleyan as he defeated Anthony Zhang of Amherst and Tommy Coyne of Williams in the singles portion of the competition.
 
In the alternate shot foursomes, Ambrose Koo '23 and Puthip Puvacharoen '24 earned a win over Philip Clifton and Toby Foehl of Williams while also halving with Steven Chen and Zhang of Amherst to earn 1.5 combined points. Fisher Hirsch '26 and Daniel Kraft '23 halved with Coyne and Will Rich of Williams. Owen Cannizzo '25 and Fain halved with Teddy Freking and Mark Vitels of Amherst to earn a 0.5 point.
 
Next up for all three teams it the Williams Invite hosted at the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown on April 22-23.
