Men's Crew

No. 2 Men’s Crew Defeated by No. 1 Williams in Little Three Championship

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – In a matchup between the top two ranked boats in the country, No. 1 Williams prevailed over No. 2 Wesleyan in all four races, claiming the 54th annual Little Three Championship.
 
Wesleyan men's crew head coach Phil Carney remarked, "our team showed great poise today in the face of the best competition in the country in DIII. We have some work to do, and we are really looking forward to getting it done over the next few weeks."
 
With a strong headwind of approximately 10-12 miles per hour, the two sides opened with the varsity 8 race with the Ephs clocking in at 6:24.2 while the Cardinals couldn't overcome a fast start from their counterparts as Wesleyan finished with a time of 6:29.5. The Cardinals' top boat featured Asher Israel '26 (coxswain), Joe Kagan '23, Paul Kiyonaga '25, Oliver Diamond '23, Emmett Nunes '23, Nelson Bellows '26, Eli Smirin '26, Brett Beaman '26, and Pierce Buckner-Wolfson '26.
 
The 2nd varsity 8 race featured next, with Williams coming out on top by a 6.5 second margin of victory. The Ephs crossed the line in 6:31.3 while the Cardinals posted a time of 6:37.8. Wesleyan's 2V8 featured Leo Rosenblum '25 (coxswain), Chris Saade '25, Hugo Harington '25, Max Ewing '24, Eli Koiistra '26, Kiran Kling '24, Freddie Bell '25, Oliver Saffery '23, and Cory Reavy '26.
 
Wesleyan drew closer to the Ephs in the 3rd varsity 8 competition, with Williams finishing in 6:39.1 compared to 6:43.1 for the Cardinals (Meg Rubenstein '25 – coxswain, Andrew Steinert '25, Nate Newcomer '25, Nader Moghadam '26, Jack Cornog '26, Alex Glotzer '25, Teddy Manning '25, Otis Harrison '26, and Morgan Shatzman '25).
 
The closest race of the day was the 4th varsity 8 boats as just 0.7 seperated the two sides. Williams managed first place in a photo finish at 7:00.9 compared to 7:01.6 for the Cardinals (Imogen Frazier '25 – coxswain, Austin Halsey '26, Ro Barrett '26, Nick Dillon '23, Colin Flynn '26, Finn Brown '23, Will Gannon '25, Nick Jarrett '25, and Rowan Cahill '26).
 
Wesleyan stays in-state for their next competition which is slated for Saturday, April 29 from Coventry Lake against Trinity.
