Men’s Track & Field Places Fifth at Trinity Invitational

Philip Keith ’25 took 1st in the 5000m


HARTFORD, CT. – The Wesleyan men's track & field team competed in the Trinity Invitational Saturday in Hartford. The Cardinals had a solid showing, placing 5th out of the nine teams competing. Wes had one individual winner on the day, with Philip Keith '25 claiming 1st in the 5000m.  
The Cards had a handful of athletes compete in the sprinting events, with three earning points for their team. Kyle Roshankish '25 posted a time of 22.87 which was good for 6th, earning his team three points. Sam Musto '24 and Nigel Hayes '23 got it done for the Cards in the 400m, each finishing inside the top eight. Musto finished in 51.50 to take 3rd place, while Hayes claimed 8th crossing in 52.93, just off from his personal best of 52.67.

Wesleyan shined in the 800m, with four top 10 finishers and six runners finishing in the top half of the field. Nate Fogarty '25 led the way with a 4th place finish (1:58.11), followed by Japer Shapiro '23 who was right behind him in 5th (1:58.82). Rob D'Aquila '26 (8th) and Ben Taffet '26 (9th) rounded out the top 10 finishers with times of 2:00.15 and 2:00.95 respectfully. The final two runners that finished in the top half of the field in the 800m were Luke Consolati '25 (2:01.68) and Alex Geula '25 (2:01.73) who crossed right after each other in 13th and 14th place out of the 32 total competitors.

The impressive day continued in the 1500m, with two more top 10 finishes to go along with another pair of finishes inside the top half of the field. Owen Rogers '24 crossed the line with a career-best time of 4:02.77, which was good enough for a 4th place in the event. Bruce Lenes '26 joined Rogers in the top 10 with an 8th place finish (4:05.29). The other two runners to finish inside the top half of the field were Simon Chidley '25 (13th, 4:13.63) and Sam Aronow '26 (18th, 4:17.86) who both placed top 20 in the 46-runner field.

Wesleyan's lone individual win on the day came from Keith in the 5000m. The sophomore dominated the competition, finishing in 16:06.16, over 19 seconds faster than 2nd place. The next best finish for the Cardinals came in the 4x400 relay, where they placed 2nd with a time of 3:30.64.

Wesleyan finished strong in the field events, with a handful of top 10 finishes. Will Dollhopf '25 claimed a pair of top 10 finishes in the discus (8th, 34.44 m) and a personal best in the hammer throw (4th, 40.61 m). Javier Orellana '25 had the 2nd best individual finish of the day, taking 2nd in the shot put with a distance of 13.68 m. The other top 10 finishes in the field events came from Anish Visht '24 in the pole vault (5th, 3.70 m), Harry Kim '25 in the long jump (6th, 5.56 m), Rami Hayes-Messinger '26 in the shot put (7th, 11.65 m), and James Giokaris '24 in the hammer throw (5th, 38.92 m).

Wesleyan will compete again next Saturday April 29th in the NESCAC Championships that will take place in New London, Connecticut.
