No. 2 Men’s Crew’s Varsity 8 Takes Down No. 4 Trinity, UConn, and Conn. College

COVENTRY, Conn. – In a final tune-up before New England's, the No. 2 ranked Wesleyan men's crew team earned yet another win over a Top 5 ranked boat as the Cardinals' varsity 8 placed first in a race against No. 4 Trinity, as well as UConn and Connecticut College on Saturday morning from Lake Coventry. "We wrapped up a successful regular season today finishing at 11-1 with a win for the Norm Graf Cup over Trinity and Conn College," said Wesleyan head coach Phil Carney. "The team continues to improve weekly, and we are excited about the Championship regattas ahead!"
 
Wesleyan earned the Norm Graf Cup in the varsity 8 competition wherein the Cardinals finished first with a time of 6:04.7. The Bantams placed second at 6:08.3 followed by UConn (6:42.6) and Conn. (6:58.8). The Cardinals complete a spring season with an 11-1 record, with the lone defeat coming last weekend to No. 1 Williams.
 
In the remaining races on the day, the Cardinals' 2nd varsity 8 boat claimed a runner-up finish to Trinity. The Bantams clocked in at 6:24.9 compared to 6:26.2 for Wesleyan while UConn was third-fastest at 7:08.7.
 
Wesleyan claimed one more win on the day as the 3rd varsity 8 boat won a race (6:44.7) that featured the Cardinals' 4th varsity 8 (6:57.8) as well as Trinity's 3rd varsity 8 (7:01.7).
 
The Cardinals look to improve upon last season's 10th place showing at the New England Championships as the competition is slated for Saturday, May 6 from Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.
