Paez Breaks 100 Fly School Record, Leading Women’s Swimming & Diving in Day 3 of NESCAC Championships

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. Izzy Paez '26 broke the school record in the 100 fly, leading the Wesleyan women's swimming & diving team in day 3 of the NESCAC Championships held at Middlebury College. The Cardinals (437 points) remain in ninth place out of 11 teams in the standings heading into the final day of competition on Sunday. The night started with the 200 medley relay where Wesleyan's A team of Izzy Pennington '24, Sara Bohacek '26, Paez, and Zoe Kuhn '26 landed in 10th place with a time of 1:46.62. The Cardinals' B team of Mia Dezelic '27, Nora Bootchk '26, Victoria Carroll '24, and Anne Conway '26 moved up two spots, finishing sixth in the heat and 17th overall with a time of 1:48.08.

Olivia Stevenson '25 led the team in the 1000 free, landing in 18th place with her time of 10:47.56. Elena Baird '26 was right behind in 20th place at 10:54.55.

Paez' school record time came in the 100 fly championship final on Saturday night. The sophomore qualified for the final in the morning with a prelim time of 56.66 seconds. She followed that up with a time of 56.35 seconds in the final, besting the previous school record of 56.38 seconds set by Amanda McHugh '22 in 2019. That time was good enough for sixth place for Paez, the highest individual finish by a Cardinal at the 2024 NESCAC Championships.

Lydia Brutvan '25 earned a spot in the 400 IM preconsolation final, touching the wall in 4:41.85 in the prelim. She followed with a time of 4:43.23 on Saturday night to finish in 22nd place.

The 200 free saw Kuhn win the preconsolation final, shaving nearly a second off her prelim time, with a 1:55.77 in the final to earn her a 17th place finish. Bella Kellner '24 also competed in the preconsolation final and finished in 1:57.71.

Bohacek came through with a time of 1:05.61 in the consolation final, moving up from her 1:06.14 prelim time, to claim a 12th place result in the 100 breast.

In the 100 back, it was Pennington who led the Cardinals with an 11th place showing in the event, shaving considerable time off her prelim (58.46) with a 57.87 second performance in the consolation final. Dezelic joined Pennington in the consolation final and finished in 58.10 for 13th place.

Stella Oman '26 led the way for Wesleyan in the 3-meter diving, setting a score of 277.55 to finish in 14th place.
