MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Rebounding from a loss on Tuesday night, the Wesleyan women's squash team played host to No. 24 St. Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon and closed the match with a 7-2 victory from the Rosenbaum Squash Center.
While picking up wins in slots 3-9, all but one ending in 3-0 sweeps, the Cardinals laid claim to their first win of the afternoon thanks to
Portia Pliam '25 at No. 8. Needing only nine minutes to sweep Azaa Regme, Pliam took games one, two, and three, 11-1 each.
Leandra Sze '26 was the next victor for the Cardinals, defeating Emma Kahle with 11-2, 11-4, 11-2 final scores.
Jaclyn Dichter '26 rallied back after Tuesday's loss in the No. 4 position with a sweep over Laura Franz. Dichter finished the match with 11-5, 11-2, 11-3 tallies. At No. 6,
Katherine Risden '28 pulled out 11-4, 11-2, 11-8 game wins over Khissaiyia Spencer. Forced to extra sets in game one at No. 5,
Rachel Matamoros '24 won 15-3 before running games two and three, 11-6, 11-4.
The final match win for the Cardinals went to
Aanya Anand '26 at No. 3. Anand pulled out a 3-2 victory after picking up 11-1, 11-9 wins to open the match but fell 9-11,10-12 through the middle but rallied back 11-4 in game five to claim a point for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals return to action against Haverford on Friday, Jan. 17, at 4 p.m. in the first round of the Wesleyan Round Robin.
