MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The No. 19 ranked Wesleyan women's squash team dominated Denison, with seven matches ending in 3-0 sweeps for the Cardinals who defeated the Big Red 8-1 on Sunday morning from the Rosenbaum Squash Center.
Of the seven sweeps, the most-convincing was
Leandra Sze '26 at #7 as the junior dropped just seven total points on her way to a 11-3, 11-1, 11-3 triumph over Charlotte Sigg in a match that lasted just 15 minutes.
Jaclyn Dichter '26 won a one-sided match at #4, defeating Tess Lanza 11-6, 11-7, 11-3 in 24 minutes while
Rachel Matamoros G'25 dominated the first two games at #5 against Kate Manderlink before winning the third game in extra points 12-10.
Aanya Anand '26 made quick work of Amelia Keng at #3, earning a 11-9, 11-5, 11-8 win.
Portia Pliam '25 needed just 19 minutes to defeat Lane Harding 11-9, 12-10, 11-4 at #8 and
Caroline Caiati '28 earned a convincing 11-5, 11-8, 11-4 win at #9 over Madeleine Ruggie.
The one Cardinal win that didn't end in a sweep was an epic back-and-forth clash at #6 with
Sydney Smith '25 fending off Virginia Lawrence for a win in five games (11-2, 10-12, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9).
Wesleyan (8-1) heads on the road next weekend and will face Colby on Saturday and Bates on Sunday.
