WATERFORD, CT. – Led by junior
Noah Mahoney '27, the Wesleyan men's cross country team pulled out all of the stops on Saturday morning, earning the program's best team finish in 15 years at the NESCAC Championship as they placed fourth out of the 11 conference institutions with six finishing in the Top 50.
For the first time since 2010, the Cardinals finished inside the Top 5 in the team standings at NESCAC, besting last year's fifth-place finish.
Tufts won their first NESCAC title since 2012 at the Conn. College hosted event, earning 30 points. The Top 5 went to Williams (57), Amherst (80), Wesleyan (107), Middlebury (129). The final six spots went to Bates (153), Colby (163), Conn. (248), Hamilton (265), Trinity (304), and Bowdoin (306). Williams' Eli Welch won the individual title, placing first with a time of 24:20.20 in the 8K race.
Highlights:
- Leading the way for the Cardinals with a 14th-place finish, Mahoney earns his first career All-NESCAC honors as a Second Team selection. Mahoney bested his 2024 finish by 12 placements, crossing the finish line with a final time of 24:50.40.
- Running a season best that earned him 18th place, Alex Kermath '26 ran a final time of 24:57.50.
- Dylan Cote '28 ran a 25:03.70 and placed 20th, jumping 13 spots from last year.
- Just four runners behind Cote was Liam Calhoun '26 at 14. Calhoun made it to the finish line in a final 25:12.30.
- With a new personal record, Ben McKinney '27 clocked in at 25:26.50 and placed 34th among the field of 159 runners.
- Zach Allen '27 was the final Cardinal to place in the Top 50, finishing in 41st place as he crossed the line at 25:37.90.
The Cardinals will get two weeks to prepare for the NCAA Mideast Regional race on Saturday, Nov. 15, in Canton, N.Y.
