WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wesleyan women's crew team totaled 172 points on the day to claim a runner-up finish at the National Invitational Rowing Championships, which also served as the NESCAC Championship on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday. The second place finish marks the best finish for Wesleyan at NIRC in team history.
The Cardinals fielded four boats on the day, all of which made their respective grand finals. The varsity 8 managed a third place result in the grand final, clocking in at 6:37.757 which trailed only Tufts and Williams by just 0.6 seconds. That third place finish matches the Cardinals' third place result for the V8 in last year's NIRC.
Wesleyan's 2
nd varsity 8 came through with a second place finish in the grand final, crossing the line in 6:48.237, just over 0.6 seconds faster than third place Trinity. The 3
rd varsity 8 managed a fourth place finish in the grand final, finishing behind Tufts, Williams, and Bates in that race as the Cardinals had a time of 7:01.454.
Rounding out the day with the open 4's, Wesleyan's time of 8:00.353 was god enough for a second place result as the Cardinals trailed only New Hampshire in the final standings.
The Cardinals await their NCAA Championship fate as the selection show is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13 at 5 PM on NCAA.com.
