GROTON, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's golf team placed first in the Mitchell College Invitational on Wednesday, held at the Shennecossett Golf Course. The Cardinals shot +34 as a team, winning the event by 13 strokes over the runner-up Western Connecticut State.
A significant achievement for the program, this marks Wesleyan's first victory since the Rhode Island College Invitational back on May 2, 2008. In addition, this marks the first time the Cardinals have won a tournament with five or more teams competing since the Wesleyan Invitational back on April 10, 2001.
Fisher Hirsch '26 led the Cardinals with a +4 (75) as his 18-hole round featured 10 pars and two birdies. Hirsch shot a +1 on the front 9 before finishing with a birdie on 18 to finish off a sensational round that placed him second on the player leaderboard.
Jacob Fain '23 tied for fifth overall, carding a +8 (79) on the par 71 course. He tied for the team-lead with three birdies in his round that also included seven pars, shooting +4 on both the front and back 9.
Joining Fain in a tie for fifth was
Puthip Puvacharoen '24 who shot a +8 (79), tying for the team-lead with three birdies in his round. Puvacharoen birdied two of three holes in the front 9 to card a +1 while he finished his day with a birdie on 18 to complete his 79.

Daniel Kraft '23 shot +14 (85) for the day, including +7 on both the front and back 9 with seven pars and a birdie on the par 5 5
th hole.
Rounding out the lineup for Wesleyan was
Ambrose Koo '23 who shot a +17 (88) with birdies on hole 2 and hole 18.
After a busy fall schedule, Wesleyan heads into the winter break before lacing it back up in April for the spring portion of the season.
