BERLIN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's golf team opened the 2022 spring season at the Bill Detrick Invitational hosted by Trinity over the weekend at the Timberlin Golf Club. After shooting an opening round 329 on Saturday, the Cardinals made a six-shot improvement and carded a 323 on Saturday to finish +76 for the weekend and in seventh place out of 10 teams. The host Bantams won the tournament on a fifth player tiebreaker with Tufts.
Owen Cannizzo '24 impressed throughout the weekend, carding a +4 (76) on Saturday before shooting 79 on Sunday to finish +11 for the weekend an in a tie for 6
th place overall out of 58 competitors. One of only nine golfers to shoot under 80 for both rounds of the tournament, Cannizzo shined in his first tournament of the spring.
Jacob Fain '23 was the second-best on the weekend for the Cardinals as he went 83-31-164 (+20) to finish in a tie for 27
th overall.
Ambrose Koo '23 shot 168 (86-82) to finish +24 and in 35
th place while
Aryaman Himatsingka '24 finished with a 170 (84-86) and
Daniel Kraft '23 bounced back with a second round 81 to finish with a 174 for the weekend.
Wesleyan has an intersquad match next as the men's and women's golf teams head to the Beekman Golf Course in Hopewell Junction, New York for a split squad contest on Saturday, April 9.
