WATERVILLE, ME.- The Wesleyan men's swimming & diving team was defeated by Colby Saturday afternoon in an away dual meet. The Cardinals finished with five first place finishers, falling to Colby by a score of 183.5-102.5. With the loss Wesleyan moves to 4-7 on the year. Colby improves to 4-2 following the defeat at The Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center.
Jake Rybczyk '24 continues to impress on the diving board, taking two first place finishes in both the three- and one-meter dive. The junior diver came in first in the one meter dive with a score of 242.25, beating out the one other Colby competitor in the event. Rybczyk then took first again in the three meter dive in dominating fashion, with a score of 244.49.
Eric Tran '23 also had a successful day in the pool, with a first and second place finish. Tran managed a win in the 200 yard butterfly , clocking in with a time of 1:54.91. He then placed second in the 400 yard IM (4:15.61), just getting beat out by Colby's Benjamin Spragg (4:13.20).
Mason Polaner '24 was the final Cardinal to take first in an individual event, finishing ahead of the pack in the 500 yard freestyle (4:49.44). Polaner, like Tran, had a second place finish as well, finishing runner-up in the 1000 yard freestyle (9:57.48).
Harrison Hong '25 was the 4
th Cardinal on the day to have a top-two finish, taking second in the 100 yard fly (51.79). Hong also had a 3
rd place finish in the 200 yard fly with a time of 1:58.08. Wesleyan did well in the relays as well, specifically the 400 yard free relay where they took 1
st, 2
nd, and 3
rd place with times of 3:17.48, 3:19.99, and 3:25.20.
Wesleyan will enjoy a week off from competition, coming back to the pool on January 28
th for Senior Day against Connecticut College.
