TERRE HAUTE, IN. – Running the twilight 8k for the NCAA Pre-National Championships, the Wesleyan men's cross country team took a late-night seventh-place finish out of 48 teams with five runners placing in the Top 100 as they were led by junior
Alex Kermath.
Taking first place out of 46 teams, Pomona-Pitzer (65) won the event and were in the Top 10 by Wisconsin-Whitewater (82), George Fox (152), MIT (172), Washington University (197), University of Chicago (199), Wesleyan (235), Loras (301), Augustana (Ill.) (305), and Haverford (318). Wisconsin-Whitewater's Gunner Schlender won the race with a final time of 24:08.97. Wesleyan finished ahead of three nationally ranked teams including No. 26 Loras, No. 28 Haverford, and No. 29 UC Santa Cruz.
"I'm very happy with the results out in Indiana," said head coach
Leo Mayo. "Our guys worked together early to put themselves in great position.Â
Alex Kermath was especially impressive, as he was able to move up throughout the race and earn a top 15 finish in a very competitive field. I'm happy with the confidence the team ran with and we will continue to improve throughout the season."
The Cardinals were led by Kermath as he ran a personal-best time of 24:51.21, crossing the finish line in 14
th place. Following Kermath in the Top 20,
Noah Mahoney '27 finished 20
th, running a final 25:02.91.
Placing 61
st,
Liam Calhoun '26 clocked in with a time of 25:37.84. Coming in behind Calhoun at 64
th,
Nate Fogarty '25 finished with a time of 25:29.27. And the last Cardinal to place in the Top 100,
Will Wise '26 ran a 25:55.18 for 82
nd.
The Cardinals return home to compete in the James Early Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 12. The race will begin at 10 a.m. in Westfield, MA.
