MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Led by
Harrison Hong '25 with three event wins in three different disciplines, the Wesleyan men's swimming and diving team fell in NESCAC action to Bates College on Saturday afternoon, 196-84 at the Webster Family Natatorium.
Hong was the second race title of the afternoon for the Cardinals, winning the 200-yard backstroke with a final time of 10:02.87. Without missing a beat, Hong entered the pool for the 50-yard freestyle and touched the wall in first place as he swam a final time of 21.62. A third title win in the 100-yard butterfly closed the competition for Hong as he clocked in at 49.96.
Brody Schrepfer '28 claimed his own first-place victory against the Bobcats, beginning the meet for the Cardinals in the 1,000-yard freestyle where he swam a final time of 10:02.87. Later in the meet, Schrepfer placed second with a 2:13.15 in the 200-yard breaststroke before closing the meet in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Picking two second place finishes for the Cardinals was
Nathan Wu '28. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Wu swam a personal-record time of 58.12. Two events later Wu was the second to touch the wall in the 100-yard freestyle at 48.54.
Swimming in behind Wu in the 100 free,
Collin Holson '25 swam a 49.85 for third place.
Fred Li '25 also claimed a third-place finish behind Hong in the 100 fly, finishing the race at 53.52. In the 100 breast, Deveyan Roychoudhury '26 swam a personal best 1:00.69.
The Cardinals relay teams placed second in both relay events. Combining for a 1:35.98 in the 200-yard medley was
Fritz Bretall '25, Wu, Hong, and
David Kantar '25. Holsonk, Kantar, Wu, and Schrepfer swam a 1:28.12 in the 200 free relay.
The Cardinals will return to the pool on Monday, Nov. 25, when they host Amherst at the Webster Natatorium at 5 p.m.
