Men’s Swimming Breaks Three More Varsity Records on Day 3 of the NESCAC Championships

Wesleyan establishes new team record times in the 50 breast, 100 breast, and 200 medley relay

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Wesleyan men's swimming & diving team saw three more varsity records broken in Day 3 of the NESCAC Championships on Saturday hosted by Middlebury. Through 18 scored events, Wesleyan sits in 10th place with 291 team points. The night session started with the 200 medley relay wherein Wesleyan's A team of Fritz Bretall '25, Brody Schrepfer '28, Harrison Hong '25, and David Kantar '25 earned an eighth place finish with a new school record time of 1:31.21. The performance was more than one full second faster than the previous team record time while the Cardinals' team finished ahead of Colby, Conn. College, and Trinity.

Schrepfer then went on to break two team records as he established program-best times in the 50 breast and 100 breast on Saturday. Competing in a 50 breast time trial in the morning session, Schrepfer broke a 10-year school record previously held by Bill Hepner with his time of 25.41 seconds. He followed that up with a record time of 55.72 seconds in the 100 breast consolation final, earning him a 12th place finish in the overall standings, while passing Mike Garrett on the record list at Wesleyan. Garrett's record had stood since 1997.

Competing in his second championship final event of the weekend, Hong earned his second Top 5 individual finish as he placed fifth overall in the 100 fly with an NCAA 'B' qualifying time of 48.25 seconds.

Nathan Wu '28 qualified for the preconsolation final of the 100 breast and clocked in at 57.67 seconds to take 24th place.

The final day of competition on Sunday features six events including the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 400 free relay.
