Nationally recognized runner Sarah Hann ’95 began her career as a star in Cardinal indoor and outdoor track, as well as cross country.

During 1994 and 1995 she won New England Division III Championships in the Indoor 800 and 1500 m and the Outdoor 1500 m. Her Indoor marks set New England records. In 1995 she set an ECAC record in the Indoor 1000 m and was national NCAA Division III runner-up in the 1500 m. Two-time All-American in both Cross Country and Track, Sarah also managed to compete on the lacrosse and swimming and diving teams.  She majored in biology and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Sarah’s athletic honors included the Jones Award (outstanding competitor in women’s tennis), the Hoagland Award (outstanding accomplishment in women’s athletics), the Maynard Award (top female scholar-athlete), election as an Academic All-American, and an NCAA post-graduate scholarship. In 1997 she spent a season as assistant to Coach Elmer Swanson.

In 2001 Sarah finished 5th in the USATF New England Championship 5 km and 4th in the Boston Mayor’s Cup  6 km, while at the U.S. Championship 6 km race, she took 2nd, just 16 seconds off the winning time. New England Runner named her the Women’s Runner of the Year. Sarah was a member of the USA World Cross Country team in 2003. In 2004 she was an Olympic Trials finalist in the 5000 m and went again to the World Cross Country Championships, this time as captain of Team USA. 

Sarah earned a veterinary degree at Cornell and now practices in Bozeman, Montana. Her Wesleyan records in the 1000 m and 1500 m still stand.
