Hall of Fame Inductees
Leo has the distinction of being the first Wesleyan men’s basketball player in school history to earn All-American honors. As a senior in 2001-02, Jones put up an average of 21 points per game on 52.1 percent shooting and 42.3 percent from three while adding 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.3 steals in 33.3 minutes per game. That impressive all-around stat line earned him d3Hoops.com Third Team All-American honors as well as First Team All-NESCAC, All-New England and All-ECAC.
After averaging 10+ points per game in both his freshman and sophomore season, Jones took a big leap as a junior in 2000-01 where he led the Cardinals to 15 wins and an appearance in the ECAC New England Tournament semifinals. Jones averaged 18.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.2 steals in 34.6 minutes per game over 26 games. His rebounding prowess was unmatched as he become the first-ever guard to lead the NESCAC in rebounds (10.2 per game) that season.
Jones was a three-time First Team All-NESCAC honoree over his career, totaling 1,539 points which ranks third all-time in program history. His career stat line included 772 rebounds (5th all-time at Wesleyan), 274 assists (4th) and 177 steals (2nd) in 92 games.
A sociology major, Leo graduated in 2002 and has since shared his love for basketball as the long-time head coach for Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, New Jersey. Jones is a three-time Conference Coach of the Year for Dwight Morrow. He also serves as Chairman of Next Level G4G, a nonprofit that provides basketball skill training and academic tutoring to underprivileged youth in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area.
